The life and work of Theodore Victor van Berckel

As the famous engraver and medallist Theodore Victor van Berckel was buried in the family grave on the 23rd September 1808 in St. Jan Cathedral in 's-Hertogenbosch, he had an interesting and productive life behind him. Many examples are given in the following web pages. Van Berckel’s productive life can be roughly divided into six periods:
- apprentice, ca. 1750-1760
- engraver in the workshop of his father, 1760-1764
- independent entrepeneur in Rotterdam, 1764-1776
- Graveur Général (chief engraver) at the Brussels’ Mint, 1776-1789
- the Brabant Revolution and the arrival of the French, 1789-1794
- travels abroad, chief engraver at the Viennese Mint, return to 's-Hertogenbosch 1794-1808
